Webinar: Using Positive Choices to plan and deliver effective drug education

The Positive Choices portal has a brand-new look! This webinar will introduce attendees to the updated portal and will include guidance on how to use the portal to their advantage to access and evaluate evidence-based resources that are engaging for young people.

The session is particularly suitable for PDHPE teachers, but also relevant to principals, school counsellors or any other school staff who would like information about online, evidence-based, drug education and prevention. During the course of the webinar, the attendees will be introduced to a collection of engaging learning resources that align with Australian Health and Physical Education curriculum requirements.

The interactive session will provide an overview of what’s available in terms of school-based drug prevention, with a focus on evidence-based materials proven to improve student’s learning outcomes and wellbeing.

This webinar will provide:

• Information about the trends in alcohol and other drugs use among Australian adolescents.
• Evidence about what does and doesn’t work when it comes to school-based drug and alcohol prevention.
• Awareness about a range of resources with the potential to engage all students regardless of individual learning styles and requirements.
• An understanding of how to use the updated Positive Choices portal, including tips on finding resources that align to Australian curriculum to help with lesson planning.

This webinar was developed by Tara Guckel, Dr Smriti Nepal, Scarlett Smout and Dr Lauren Gardner at the Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use, University of Sydney, and was informed by a review of the research evidence on this topic.
